The Short Answer
For most living rooms, the National Tree Company 7.5 ft Dunhill Fir with Dual Color LED lights is the tree to buy. Its foot pedal steps through ten light settings, from steady warm white to twinkling multicolor, a pastel mode and slow fades between the two, so the warm-white fan and the multicolor fan in the house both get their way. 1
Choose the Feel Real Downswept Douglas Fir for the most lifelike branch tips, the 9 ft Dunhill Fir for a tall ceiling, the Best Choice Products 9 ft spruce for warm-white twinkle without color, and the Instree flocked spruce for a snowy look with a remote. 2 3 4 9
Before buying, measure the floor: the 7.5 ft Dunhill and the Douglas Fir are both 59 inches across at the base, per National Tree Company.

Before you choose
A pre-lit tree with switchable lights settles an argument before it starts. Dual-color trees carry warm white and multicolor bulbs on the same string, and a foot pedal or remote changes between them, adds twinkle or fades one into the other. No app, no Wi-Fi and no phone are involved, which is the difference from the smart app-controlled Christmas trees guide.
The five trees here are full-size, between 7.5 and 9 feet, and each was at least $100 when checked. Four change color; the Best Choice spruce is the exception, a warm-white tree whose lights twinkle, fade or hold steady. Three come from National Tree Company, whose own pages list the light count, tip count, width and light settings for each exact model, and those maker figures are used here where the Amazon listing says something different.
Prices were checked October 3, 2026. This guide uses Amazon's labeled List price where the product page shows one, and otherwise the featured Amazon selling price, labeled Amazon price. The 7.5 ft Dunhill and the Best Choice spruce displayed a List price; the other three figures are Amazon prices. Check the current price before buying, since holiday offers change quickly. The choices, in detail
Best color-changing tree overall
National Tree Company 7.5 ft Dunhill Fir, Dual Color LED
A household split between warm white and multicolor that wants a classic full tree for an ordinary 8-foot ceiling.
The National Tree Company Dunhill Fir is the most complete light show on a standard-height tree here. National Tree Company names all ten settings on its foot pedal: steady warm white, twinkle warm white, steady multicolor, twinkle multicolor, steady pastel, a fade from warm white to multicolor, random fading, fading warm white, fading multicolor and flashing between warm white and multicolor. That covers a quiet warm glow for a dinner party and a full twinkling multicolor tree for the children on Christmas morning. 1
The shape is the classic full Dunhill cone: 7.5 feet tall, 59 inches across at the base and 2,514 PVC branch tips, which gives plenty of branch for heavy ornaments. National Tree Company counts 700 dual-color LEDs, and says they stay lit even if an individual bulb goes out. The Amazon listing gives a higher bulb count, but this guide follows the maker's figure for this model. Branches are hinged, so setup is a matter of unfolding the stand, stacking the sections and shaping the tips. 1 5
That 59-inch width is the thing to measure, since a full tree takes about five feet of floor. On price, the List price is the basis here, but at the time of writing the featured Amazon offer was $280.00, sold and shipped by Amazon.com, far below the $679.99 List price. 1 5
Most realistic dual-color tree
National Tree Company 7.5 ft Feel Real Downswept Douglas Fir, Dual Color LED
A buyer who wants switchable lights but cares most about branches that look and feel like a real fir up close.
The Feel Real Downswept Douglas Fir is the pick when realism comes first. National Tree Company molds its Feel Real branch tips from real tree branches and describes them as crush-resistant, and the downswept shape lets the boughs droop slightly at the ends, the way a cut Douglas fir does. The photo shows a lighter, softer green than the darker Dunhill. 2
It carries 750 dual-color LEDs that change from warm white to multicolor at the touch of the foot pedal, and the Amazon listing adds twinkle, flash and fade effects on either color. The bulbs are low-voltage LEDs, the string uses National Tree Company's Base Lock design to keep bulbs from falling out, and spare bulbs come in the box. 2 6
The trade-off is fullness. At 7.5 feet and 59 inches wide it has the same footprint as the Dunhill, but National Tree Company counts 1,867 tips against the Dunhill's 2,514, so it reads more open and natural rather than dense. That suits a tree with fewer, larger ornaments. 1 2
Best for tall ceilings
National Tree Company 9 ft Dunhill Fir, PowerConnect, Dual Color LED
A room with a 10-foot or vaulted ceiling that wants the full ten-setting dual-color show at a larger scale.
The 9 ft Dunhill Fir is the 7.5 ft pick scaled up for a tall room. National Tree Company gives it 900 dual-color LEDs and the same ten foot-pedal settings, from steady warm white through twinkling multicolor and pastel to the slow fades. 3
It also adds PowerConnect, which National Tree Company describes as each section connecting into the next with no wires to plug in between sections. On a 9-foot tree, that saves reaching into the middle branches to find section plugs. The branches are hinged and National Tree Company allows about 30 minutes to shape them. 3 7
Size is the commitment. National Tree Company gives 66 inches across at the base and 4,029 branch tips, so it needs about five and a half feet of floor and a ceiling with clearance for a topper. It is also the most expensive tree on this list at this check. 3
Best warm-white twinkle tree
Best Choice Products 9 ft Pre-Lit Spruce, Twinkling LEDs
A warm-white household with a tall ceiling that wants a gentle twinkle and no color at all.
The Best Choice Products 9 ft spruce is for the home that already knows its answer is warm white. Its 900 LEDs run three settings, twinkle, slow fade and steady on, so the tree can sparkle softly or hold still. It does not change color; the listing gives the light color as warm white. 4 8
Best Choice Products gives the 9 ft size 2,028 tips of PVC spruce needles on metal hinges, and the listing puts the overall size at 60 inches across and 108 inches tall including the stand. Setup is three steps: unfold the metal stand, stack the sections and fluff. 4 8
It is the value route to a 9-foot twinkle tree: its List price is $469.00 less than the 9 ft Dunhill's Amazon price at this check, and at the time of writing the featured offer was $269.99, sold and shipped by Best Choice Products. What it gives up is the multicolor and pastel modes. 8
Best with a remote
Instree 7.5 ft Snow Flocked Spruce with Remote
A snowy-look tree that changes color and mode from the sofa, with a timer to switch itself on.
The Instree flocked spruce is the only tree here with a remote. The listing gives it 5 brightness levels, 16 lighting modes, 23 timer settings and a memory function, and a foot pedal controller as well, switching between steady, twinkle, slow glow and an all-in-one combination. 9
Its 600 dual-color LEDs offer three color schemes, per the listing: classic warm white, traditional multicolor in red, yellow, green, blue and purple, and a pastel multicolor. The listing also says the tree stays lit if one bulb burns out, breaks or loosens. The branches are white-dusted with flocking, which turns the warm-white setting into a snowy, wintry look. 9
It is the narrowest tree here at 51 inches across the base, and the listing's 7.5-foot height includes the stand. The listing allows 25 to 45 minutes to fluff the hinged branches, and a storage bag is included. Its claims come from the Amazon listing alone, with no maker page to confirm them. 9

Sources & Methodology
This is a research-based shortlist, not a hands-on test. Recommendations draw on each maker's product page where one exists, the selected Amazon listings and the listing photographs of the exact trees, all checked October 3, 2026. The five picks cover different needs: a full dual-color tree for a standard ceiling, the most realistic branch tips, a tall dual-color tree, a warm-white twinkle tree and a flocked tree with a remote. Each had a checked price of at least $100.
For the three National Tree Company trees and the Best Choice Products tree, the maker's page was matched to the Amazon listing by its barcode, and light counts, tip counts, widths and light settings come from the maker where the listing differs. The Instree tree has no maker page here, so its specifications are the listing's. Nothing was measured independently. Advice about which tree suits which room is editorial judgment from those stated specifications.
Prices are dated observations for the named listings, not promises of current availability. The 7.5 ft Dunhill and Best Choice figures are the List prices Amazon displayed; their featured offers at the same check were $280.00 and $269.99. The other three are featured Amazon selling prices.
